Image Locations

Here is some brief information on the various locations featured in my images

Tower Bay

Tower Bay is a secluded, yet easily accessed, south-facing bay with a shingle beach just beyond Portrane.

Since the installation of buoys by Swim Ireland in recent years, it has become very popular with sea swimmers, the more hardy of whom swim all year round.

Named for the Martello Tower which has commanding views over the area, this tower is a private residence occupied all year round. It is one of 26 towers erected in 1804-05 along the eastern coast, between Bray to the south and Balbriggan to the north. They were built to resist a possible Napoleonic invasion of Dublin.

Lambay Island

Lambay Island lies 4 km off the Dublin coast. With an area of approx 2.5 sq km, it’s the largest island on the east coast of Ireland and is privately owned.

The island’s coast line is 10 km long and is home to a wide range of flora and seabirds together with a working farm and a colony of wallabies. It rises to 126m above sea level at the highest point.

Newbridge Demesne

Newbridge Demesne is a 150 hectare estate which was opened as a public park in 1986. It’s a fantastic resource with many attractions including sports pitches, a traditional farm, walled garden, play ground and Newbridge House which was built in the mid 1700’s.

Within the grounds you will find Lanestown Castle which is actually a Tower House. It was apparently in use until the late 18th century after which it was used as a cattle shelter until the 1970s.

Baldongan Church Doors

Baldongan Church

Baldongan is near Skerries in North Couny Dublin.

Baldongan Church and Tower dates from at least the 14th century and is a National Monument. The tower was built to provide secure accommodation for the priests who lived there.

Nothing remains of the nearby Baldongan Castle, where in the 17th century a 200 strong garrison was executed by Cromwellian forces.

Ardmore, Co Waterford

As a family, we have been travelling to Ardmore for holidays for over 40 years. To say it is a second home is an understatement!

While there have been many changes over the years, the village still retains its character and the many beaches and cliff walk are fantastic amenities which draw people back year after year.

Ardmore is the site of one of the earliest Christian seats of learning as St Declan set up a seminary here in 416, about 15 years before St Patrick even arrived in Ireland! Probably best known for its well preserved round tower built on the site of the seminary, Ardmore has many ancient and historic sites in a fantastic seaside location.
